Magic Rising

I've finally started work on my Chaos Marines to do list and this is the beginning; one Chaos Sorcerer. He has the mark of Tzeentch (although I'm not happy with the one I painted so I'll try again until I'm satisfied).

I've decided to paint him as one of the Thousand Sons but pre-heresy colours. The reason for this is that their background doesn't mention anything about them changing their armour paint like the other chapters and originally they wore red armour. Plus I like the red armour, it contrasts more with the blue of the lower clothing. I chose blue to keep in with the Egyptian theme of the unit; blue, red and yellow being very common colours in Egyptian ceremonial clothing.

Big Wheels Keep on Turning

I based the chariot and added the body parts for a more macabre look. I placed them at the back of the model so that the effect I talked about in my last post isn't ruined but then a new effect is created when seeing it from the back. The overall effect is that you're drawn to the chariot in all it's weirdness until you see the back, at which time there's gut wrenching horror but by then it's far too late because it's likely that the body parts mangled up by the chariot are the enemy models.

Training Wheels

Finally, the chariot is done! It's only taken me since the end of August but it's finally done. All I have to do now is the basing and add a little blood to the wheels once I've added the body parts to it and then it's completely done.

I'm actually really pleased with it (I was a little concerned with the outrageous colour scheme of the steeds). The reason for the four colours is to represent the four corporal sins; lust, gluttony, avarice and sloth. The two riders and the clawed Daemonette represent the spiritual sins (pride, envy and anger). The Daemonette with the whips is the epitome of the Slaaneshi doctrine in that she is whipping the sins to urge them ever onwards in a frenzy.

Minor Delays

This was supposed to be the post that shows off my completed chariot but due to a small issue with a lack of the right colours I can't finish it yet. It's very frustrating because my vision for this is almost realised only to be thwarted at the last second. Ok, slightly melodramatic there because all I have to do is go get the colours I need but currently the snow is making travel a little... Well... Impossible (getting to and from work is bad enough and it's practically a straight line). If I change the colours I need for ones I have then I'll have to rethink an entire area of the model and I don't really want to do that.

All I have left to do is one steed and the model itself is completed and it's really annoying that one thing is going to stop me for the foreseeable future. I could probably do some of my Chaos Marines while I wait but I was excited about finishing all my Daemon models. Oh well, never mind.

I'm also having a slight issue with my two standing Daemonettes as they don't seem to want to stand up. I've tried putting them on a base but it looks stupid so I'll have to think of something else. Apart from that though the riders are finished and ready to roll.

There are no pictures for this post as I want the whole thing done before I show it, just so none of the shock factor is lost (and trust me there will be shock factor).

Lord Have Mercy

Well he's done and that completes my Tzeentchian line-up; presenting Hèc'anæ Merwî-višh'të, The Lord of Change! I've decided to start naming all of my major models so that I'm more attached to them in battles and stuff.

Skin Treatment

And by treatment I mean that I've done the skin on my Lord of Change. I re-did the Tamiya Paint and then hit the drybrush. Since the Flamers I've really started to love drybrushing and I think it's going to be the single thing that binds my Tzzentchian forces together (obviously they can't be too cohesive as a force because that goes against Tzeentch completely). So how I've done the skin; after retouching the Tamiya, I drybrushed over with Altdorf Guard blue, then a 50/50 mix of Altdorf and Calgar Blue. Following that was pure Calgar Blue, then a 50/50 mix with Genestealer Purple and then pure Genestealer. The last few layers were various mixes of Genestealer and Ulthuan Grey, starting with a 75/25 and going right through to a 25/75 (where the 25 is Genestealer and the 75 is Ulthuan). I highlighted the veins and tendons with pure Ulthuan Grey, although I did originally plan to use Slaanesh Grey. The reason for the change was that Slaanesh Grey blended too much with the purple/grey mix underneath so it couldn't be seen very well and I figured white would be far too bright.

Change is as Good as a Rest

Tzeentch must really be on my back or something because I had a very sudden flash of inspiration for my Lord of Change as I was on my PS3. I can't even say I was playing anything that could inspire me because I was killing angels on Bayonetta so I don't even know where it came from.

Delayed Manifestion

It's only taken a few months but I finally finished my Pink Horrors!! My life they were really boring to paint, I'm guessing it was the constant block colour and the small details weren't enough to break it up. I think for my next unit I'll have to come up with some new colour schemes to break up the monotony. I don't even like pink that much...

Trust me, it isn't a Bird...

Today is the day I finished my Screamer unit, can I hear cheers? No? Ok then, moving swiftly on...

I decided to mix it up a little by adding some colour onto one of the Screamers and I've tied it into my Horrors (which I promise will be the next thing I paint and finish if it kills me). The greyish blue was nice but a little too blocky for my liking so a little splash of colour in the right place broke it up without being too garish (irony being that Tzeentch is garish personified but I do like a bit of irony).
